we are delighted to announce that the 3rd issue of the specialist magazine Mining Reporter is online.
The e-journal is being made available free of charge by the well-known German publishing house VGE Verlag GmbH (Verlag Glueckauf), which specialises in publications for the mining and extractive industries.
The list of contents includes technical articles on deep mining, tunnelling, opencast mining, mineral processing and preparation, the mining supplier industry and services sector, mining consultants and project planning.

The New Mining Reporter is the latest incarnation of the English-language version of Glückauf magazine that was published successfully as a trade-fair journal for fifty years, while the German edition has a pedigree that stretches back some 145 years.

HOLLOW AUGER RESULTS
Assay results from the recently completed Hollow Auger (“HA”) drilling across the entire Mokobaesi.
Prospect are on average 47% higher grade than the factored (0.85 factor) radiometric probe grades that were used in the previous resource estimate (June 2008-SRK). Within the interpreted secondary ore zone (as modelled by Optiro using an approximate 50ppm U3O8 cut off grade) at Mokobaesi the HA grades are 17% higher than the factored probe grades.

Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe:
A proposed $2 billion coal mine near Moura will undergo rigorous environmental assessment after being declared a significant project by Queensland’s Coordinator-General Colin Jensen.
Belvedere Joint Venture is proposing an underground longwall coking coal mine, with associated above-ground facilities, seven kilometres north-east of Moura in the Bowen Basin, Central Queensland.

- Holcim reacted quickly and decisively to the macroeconomic environment:
- In markets with weak demand, capacity in all segments was shut down; approximately 10 million tonnes in the cement segment
- Fixed costs were reduced by CHF 573 million from January to September
- Net income like-for-like increased by 13.7 percent in the third quarter despite lower sales volumes
- Operating EBITDA margin increased to 25.8 percent in the third quarter
- Cash flow from operating activities significantly increased and free cash flow doubled
- The strategic expansion program with a focus on emerging markets continues as planned
- Acquisition in Australia strengthens Holcim in an attractive market
- The Group will start the new financial year from a strong position and grow again
In the mature markets, demand for building materials decreased further in the third quarter. However, in many emerging markets the construction industry continued to grow, particularly in Asia, driven by the strong market growth in China and India.

Orica Profit Growth in 2009 Demonstrates Resilience

Orica announced a net profit after tax and individually material items of $542 million for the full year ended 30 September 2009, up $2 million on the previous year.
Net profit after tax was a record $646 million, up 13% on 2008, excluding the loss on individually material items of $104 million. Sales revenue increased 13% to $7.4 billion.

The 2010 generation of Cobra™ petrol drill and breakers by Atlas Copco meet the stricter requirements of exhaust emission set by the US based Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), known as having one of the strictest emission control programs worldwide.
Phase 2 of the Exhaust emission standards for small non-road engines of the EPA and it´s EU equivalent, EG 97/68/EG with amendment 2002/88/EG constitute a reduction of hydrocarbon (HC) and NOX emissions and are probably the most demanding in the history of environmental regularities. Compared to previous generation of Cobra™ machines, the emission of hydrocarbons has been reduced by approximately 50 percent.

The 496-page "Guidelines For Open Pit Slope Design" aims to address many of the uncertainties surrounding the development of large open pit mines.
Open pit mining is an efficient way to mine many deposits, but there are complications.
